Black Septarian Nodule Fossil set aka DRAGONSTONE
Black Septarian nodules are amazing fossils- a bit of a rarity so I purloined as many as I could get my little mitts on! These ones in particular are a little bit special, as they contain no calcite!! Nicknamed DRAGON STONE, as it resembles the scales of a dragon. Call on the energy of the dragon to protect your home and sacred space!
The Formation & Properties Of Septarian Nodules
Common septarian nodules are pretty easily found and contain different minerals like calcite, aragonite, chalcedony and even smoky quartz in some pieces. Septarian is a "concretion" stone. Formed during the Cretaceous Period, around 50 to 70 million years ago!!. When volcanic eruptions killed smaller sea life which then sank to the seabed and started decomposing. The minerals in the shells and carcasses attracted sea floor sediments, which accumulated around the carcasses and formed nodules or mud balls. When the ocean eventually receded, the mud balls dried out and began to shrink and crack into the beautiful patterns that you see inside the septarian nodules. So think fossilized mud ball!
