Triquetra The Power Of Three- Meant initially as “triangle” it was used to refer to various three-cornered shapes.
Sometimes, the traditional triquetra symbol is accompanied by a circle.
As previously mentioned in the Celtic tree of life the Celts favoured that everything in this world came in threes.
- Three stages of life: life, death, and rebirth
- Three elements: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
- Three domains: earth, sea and sky
- Body , Soul and Spirit
- Mother, father, and son.
- Sowing, crop, and growth.
- Sunrise, midday, and sunset.
- Childhood, adulthood, and old age.
- Past, present, and future.
The circle that is often interlaced with the triquetra represents the bond between the three elements.
HISTORY OF THE TRIQUETRA
An ancient Celtic symbol, the triquetra is considered one of the oldest; dating back to as early as 500 BC when it was used to symbolize the triple goddess (maiden-mother-crone). Over the centuries it has become the symbol for the Holy Trinity among Christians in Ireland. The symbol is often used to represent the 3 fundamental elements – air, water, and earth or the infinite cycle of life. It is also known as a rune of protection.
The triquetra is a Latin word, meaning “triangular” or “three-cornered.” In its purest form, the triquetra is three interconnected ovals — one pointing upward, the other two pointing down, to the left and right.
